The State’s first Geriatric Oncology Center was launched on October 1, 2021 at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Institute. Geriatric Oncology is a unique way of treating elderly cancer patients after assessing their overall well-being. On the occasion of the launch, Dr. Vanita Noronha of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai briefed everyone about the importance of Geriatric Oncology and the way it has revolutionized the treatment facilities for elderly cancer patients.
Dr. Tarachand Gupta, head of Geriatric Oncology in the hospital, said that under this treatment modality the physical & mental health of the patient is assessed through a questionnaire. Dr. Ajay Bapna, Director and Head, Department of Medical Oncology informed that to provide treatment and care under Geriatric Oncology, special training is being taken from the team of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
