BMCHRC has maintained its own blood bank that registers and provides services to the patients and donors as per the rules set up by the Drugs & Cosmetics Act of India.

The department provides round the clock service ensuring safe and proper transfusion for each patient. We adhere to evidence-based transfusion practices and follow stringent quality control measures in terms of blood donation, testing of blood products and transfusion practices followed by a well-defined quality management system.

Can a blood transfusion cure cancer?

Blood transfusions are known to work as a counter to the side effects caused by cancer treatments. It is also a great and effective manner of fighting off Anaemia, which is common for cancer patients to develop.

What type of cancer requires blood transfusions?

Almost all patients of Leukemia and some patients of lymphomas often require blood transfusions as either their condition or the treatment may damage the bone marrow cells, thus affecting their ability to create healthy blood cells.

Why would a chemo patient need a blood transfusion?

Chemotherapy may sometimes cause minor side effects in patients, including Anaemia. To counter this problem, chemotherapy patients are often given blood transfusions in between chemotherapy sessions.
