BMCHRC’s project “Freedom From Cancer”

About the Project

BMCHRC’s project “Freedom From Cancer” offers free treatment to underprivileged patients of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a type of Blood Cancer. Under this program, people diagnosed with CML in a chronic phase through real-time quantitative reverse transcription (RQ-PCR) for the presence of protein BCR-ABL, will be given free treatment. This includes a 2 to 3 months’ supply of Imatinib, a cancer growth blocker, at a time, for up to 5 years, and free routine tests at the hospital. To avoid any problems with the scheme, any patient not taking the medicine regularly or not taking the regular BCR-ABL test as recommended by the consultant will be excluded from this scheme. This Project Started in August 2015. Till June, 2024, 310 patients registered under the project and 179 are receiving free treatment (worth Rs 1,97,57,310/-). All these patients are cancer free and leading a normal life
