On 27th June 2008, I observed an unusual Tumor on my right Breast. I suspected it to be a Cancer Tumor & immediately went to Doctor and got Mammography of the Breast. The Mammography observation and FNAC report indicated that the Tumour was Cancerous. I straight away approached Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, the renowned cancer hospital in Jaipur & met famous doctor, Dr. Sanjeev Patni. He advised me Breast Surgery & hence I requested Dr. Patni to perform the Surgery at the earliest. Within 4 days, i.e. 1st Jul 2008, Dr. Patni performed the Surgery.
I am mentioning the above dates just for the benefit of all that an immediate action in terms of Surgery helps fast cure & recovery and that too at nominal expense.
As advised by Dr. Patni, I had to undergo six Chemotherapies. My hair started falling after 1st Therapy but grew back after Chemotherapy course was completed. During the Chemotherapy, I met Cancer Care ladies who had advised me various techniques for rejuvenation. I followed their advice and more than that I kept myself engaged fully in daily routine works which helped me in concentrating on things other than Chemo Therapy.
I from my experience appeal to all ladies who have had cancer that hard work & self-belief won’t make them weak; in fact, it generates energy and does not let them remember that they are patients of a serious disease like cancer. As for BMCHRC, I can say that my experience with the hospital has been very good. All the doctors and staff members were supporting and treatment is very economical.
Again I appeal to all, Please do not waste even a day for the treatment and you will be cured faster, cheaper & better.
I was a 5 year old in 1997 when my cancer got detected. I started becoming very weak and often had blackouts and used to feel dizzy and fall down. Some lumps had developed on my neck. On getting tested, the reports suggested that I was suffering from blood cancer (ALL: acute lymphoblastic leukemia). I was rushed to Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai immediately and after a treatment of 1 year, I was shifted to Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital as it had established its roots in Jaipur. I went through chemotherapy, radiations, bone marrow tests and the regular treatment and eventually after 2 years I survived cancer. The “KEY” to sail through this problem is to maintain good hygiene, take prescribed medication regularly and on time and follow your doctor and his treatment. Moreover, it’s the trust on GOD, your doctors and nurses, your family members and their support and most importantly on you yourself which becomes the key to winning over cancer. Your positive thinking and willpower do all the wonders to fight against the disease and make you a winner. I lead a very normal life today like every ordinary citizen. Eat, live and sleep like them, but what’s different in me is that I know come what may if you stand firm with dedication you can definitely make it through all the obstacles you face. “Sometimes life is sweet, sometimes it is sour. But you need to have a very strong willpower. Get yourselves checked in hospitals and in camps. Together we will emerge as cancer winning champs.”
As told by her relative, when she was three years old she used to have pain in her stomach. It used to bloat, she used to have a high fever and not talk with anyone and would be all by herself. Her father decided to get her checked by a doctor. She was taken to Sevadhan Hospital in Chomu but the treatment did not give much relief. The doctors then advised to take her to a bigger hospital in Jaipur and was then referred to J K Lon hospital. After being treated for 10 to 15 days and getting no relief depressed Moolchand Ji (Atma Kumari’s Father) took her back to Chomu. A friend then suggested to go to BMCHRC and meet a common friend who advised to consult Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma. As Atma Kumari was brought late to the hospital she was not to the best of her health but doctors at BMCHRC and her family did not lose hope. Atma Kumari’s treatment was carried out as suggested by Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma suggested and therapy was given to her for three months. The family started facing financial difficulties but owing to the facilities provided to BPL patients the treatment was free. During therapy, Atma Kumari used to bleed from her nose, have fever and other side effects, but owing to the right treatment and friendly behavior of the staff she stabled soon and started getting better. Atma Kumri has completely recovered and is now studying in the first standard. In spite of being from the BPL category, the hospital never gave us step-motherly treatment and provided us the best treatment and all facilities.
In 1997 when I was teaching at Sophia school I came to know of a lump in my right breast. I went to SMS hospital and got it operated upon and had the breast removed, My elder daughters wedding was scheduled after a month and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. I lost my hair due to it and people used to look at me in a perplexed manner who had no hair and who had her breast removed.
But my family was my strength and I did not lose my patience to cancer and I advise other also not to do so. Today there are transplants and breast prosthesis available. So if a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer it’s not the end of life.
Two years back I felt a lump in my thighs and when I came to BMCHRC I was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. I have two daughters of which one is in Delhi and other in Mumbai, they told me to come to AIIMS or Tata Memorial Hospital for treatment but when I compared the facilities I came to know that the same facilities are available here also. I decided to get my treatment done at Jaipur and am satisfied with all the staff especially the nursing staff and medical staff. Dr. Lalit Mohan Sharma has been very kind an cooperative, lastly, I would like to say that cancer is curable and people should not be afraid of it.
A person is known by his voice and was very worried when my voice got a little hoarse. I thought it may be because of a little change in the weather. I showed myself to doctors at SMS and Jain ENT hospital and got the required tests done and came to know that I will get well soon, but later on, I completely lost my voice and felt pain in my throat and was coughing out white phlegm. Later I also went to Fortis but still, the test was inconclusive. For almost one year I went from pillar to post to get the right diagnosis. I tried all treatments such as Homeopathy, Ayurvedic, and allopathy to no avail.
One friend informed and suggest that I go to BMCHRC.
I met Dr. Sanjiv Patni and after tests, it was diagnosed as Cancer of the vocal cord. I had never touched any tobacco or alcohol and neither had any bad habits so how did I get such a dreadful ailment. I felt depressed when friends told me that they prayed that cancer should not strike their enemies but Dr. Sanjiv Patni boosted my confidence by saying that an operation is the only option now. But I was in a great dilemma that will I get better or not. My family stood as a rock and boosted my confidence and belief and said that all will be well. My wife and daughter were my strength.
I was operated upon and a prosthesis was also implemented but that affected me physically and emotionally and had many side effects. I was also given radiotherapy but that did not do me much good. But when I saw other patients around me and felt that my pain was very less as compared to their pain and suffering. I strengthened my willpower and with my perseverance was able to win this battle. I would like to say that Cancer is curable and there is a possible treatment for all. For the past 7 years, I have been leading a healthy life and am in regular consultation with Dr Sanjiv Patni and always boost the confidence of other cancer patients. I also advise all other patients who come to me for counseling.
I would like to end with a Hindi saying: A person who believes he will lose will surely lose but one who determines that he will win will surely win.
Babulaal Saini resident of Sanganer, Jaipur works as a laborer to fulfill the daily needs of his family. In 2005 after a painful period of 10 months, he was recommended to Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (BMCHRC) in Jaipur. Dr.Naresh Somani, Senior Consultant & HOD, Clinical Trials & Research Deptt. at BMCHRC diagnosed and found that Mr. Saini is suffering from cancer, Dr.Somani explained him about the type of cancer he was afflicted from and prescribed the treatment that helped him gain hope and confidence to beat the deadly disease. Mr. Saini underwent 24 months of treatment at BMCHRC and he said,“ the treatment was grueling but it made me stronger as a person and BMCHRC is boon for cancer patients in India”. Today Mr. Saini is cancer-free for more than seven years.
Mukesh Jain, a resident from Ajmer works in a marble factory. In the year 2016 he had felt a severe pain in the right side of his mouth. Due to which he consulted the local doctors of Ajmer and found that he had a lump in his mouth which resulted in Cancer. As soon as his family members got to know that he was suffering from such a deadly disease, they all went into shock as it is very painful to see your loved one in so much pain.
Mukesh says that he is the only breadwinner in his family and it was going to be a very difficult time for all of them. The doctors in Ajmer advised and referred him to. Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital, Jaipur for his further treatment as it is one of the best hospitals for Cancer Detection, Treatment & Prevention. Here at the hospital, he met Dr. Anil Gupta who guided and helped him with providing answers to his questions. After meeting the doctor, he felt a bit stress-free, relaxed and happy. And then he further continued towards his operation.
After the successful implementation of the operation now, Mukesh is absolutely fit & fine and living a normal and a happy life. When asked Mukesh told us that he has being chewing tobacco from past 20 years and now he pledges to quit tobacco and inspire people to stop consuming it.”
It was an evening of 2007, when I was playing with my son (Mohammed Azharuddin) and suddenly felt a lump on his neck. That time I didn’t took it seriously and thought that it will go away automatically, but I was “Wrong”.
Few days later I took him to my family physician & after some preliminary investigations got to know that my son is suffering from cancer.
It was a total blackout for me at that time as I was unable to understand that how a nine-year-old child can be a cancer patient, but at the second moment, I prepared myself to fight against it.
I didn’t disclose anything to my son about his disease & took him to Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital without any delay.
There Dr Ajay Bapna, Sr. Consultant & Head, Medical Oncology started his treatment & after 3 years of regular follow-ups, my son was declared “Cancer Free”.
It’s been 08 years since Mohammed is cancer free now but this feeling of joy came with regular routine checkup which was six times in an year earlier & now has reduced to once in an year.
Now Mohammed is well, happy & lives a normal life. He is studying in class 10 and wants to be a lawyer.
What life has taught me through my son is that “Cancer is cured if diagnosed and treated early by a qualified oncologist”
